1,000 Artist Journal Pages: Personal Pages and Inspirations (1000 Series)
This is my favorite art journaling book. Artist journals were submitted by hundreds of artists, and pages are cleanly displayed here. It is easy to read the entries on many pages and see the variety of content that people write about. There is also a wide variety of art, from collage to painting and sketching. It is very inspirational. It also features several pages of my work.
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling
This very good book profiles several artists and focuses on authentic art journaling. There are great color images of the art journals of several artists (including myself) and guided exercises for tackling the page on your own.
Wide Open: Inspiration and Techniques for Art Journaling on the Edge (Book & Card Kit)
Randi has amazing art journals, which I have had the joy of seeing in person. These art journal cards are glossy cards with beautiful imagery on one side and creative prompts on the other. Often art journaling prompts strike me as cheezy and contrived, and it’s not the case with these cards, where the author shares her own experience in using the prompts too. There are many photography-related prompts, and I love using photos in my art making.
Art Journals and Creative Healing: Restoring the Spirit Through Self-Expression
This book offers some basic prompts for getting started with art journaling and some basic exercises along a very wide spectrum of art styles. Unlike the books listed above, some of these fall more in to a more scrapbook-like style.
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wings
Although this text focuses more on technique and philosophy than art journaling, the author’s positive and encouraging voice shines through. The artwork is quite stylistic with positive text weaved through in inspiring ways. There are interviews with several other artists throughout.
